Our Guardian Angels
Psalm 34:7
The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them.
Psalm 91:11
For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways;
There are more angels than can be counted. At our request God can grant us additional protection in times of need.
2 Kings 6:16-17
"Don't be afraid," the prophet answered. "Those who are with us are more than those who are with them."
And Elisha prayed, "O LORD , open his eyes so he may see." Then the LORD opened the servant's eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.
Let's look at how many angels the Bible says there are.
Revelation 5:11
Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders.
The verse above states the angels the author saw in front of God's throne. As God would not have all his angels about his thrown all the time it stands to reason there are many, many more than what was seen. So how many did he say were in front of the throne? Well if we take tens of thousands as meaning a literal amount; 10,000 x 10,000 = 100,000,000 angels all directly infront of the throne. The Bible is saying more than any human could count... an extremely large number!
Just how many angels do we need; is one enough?
The Bible states that there are four angels that hold back the winds of strife upon the face of the earth.
Revelation 7:1
After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth to prevent any wind from blowing on the land or on the sea or on any tree.
However we must not put ourselves in areas of danger to test God like the temptation the devil used against Jesus below.
Luke 4:9-12
The devil led him to Jerusalem and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. "If you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down from here. For it is written:
" 'He will command his angels concerning you to guard you carefully;
they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.' "
Jesus answered, "It says: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'"
God is our leader and we must trust in Him. We need to pray to Him and not angels as only God can save us from our sins.
Colossians 2:18
Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you for the prize. Such a person goes into great detail about what he has seen, and his unspiritual mind puffs him up with idle notions.
Note: The following verse is why we need God's help.
Ephesians 6:12
For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.
Some more verses on angels.
Matthew 26:53
Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?
1 Chronicles 14:15
"As soon as you hear the sound of marching in the tops of the balsam trees, move out to battle, because that will mean God has gone out in front of you to strike the Philistine army."
Luke 15:10
"In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."
2 Peter 2:11
Bold and arrogant, these men are not afraid to slander celestial beings; yet even angels, although they are stronger and more powerful, do not bring slanderous accusations against such beings in the presence of the Lord.
