The True Family of Jesus
46 As Jesus was speaking to the crowd, his mother and brothers stood outside, asking to speak to him. 47 Someone told Jesus, “Your mother and your brothers are outside, and they want to speak to you.”
48 Jesus asked, “Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?” 49 Then he pointed to his disciples and said, “Look, these are my mother and brothers. 50 Anyone who does the will of my Father in heaven is my brother and sister and mother!”
Jesus... Son of Man
He was, and is our example!
Satan wants us to see Jesus' life here on earth as a far-fetched lifestyle that we could never come into today. He wants you to see Jesus' life here on earth as 100% God and had no man. However, scripture is clear that Jesus was God (the Word) and He took on the nature of man (flesh):
John 1:1,14, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God... And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us..."
It is true that Jesus was God's son, but it's also true that He was living a man's life down here on earth. In Hebrews 2:9, God's Word tells us that Jesus was made a little lower than the angels while He was here on earth:
"But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels..."
Jesus was our example
If I asked you the reason Jesus went about healing all who were oppressed of the devil, what would you say? Would you say, "He did those things because He was the son of God!"? Would you be shocked if I said you were wrong? Let's take a look at Acts 10:38, where it tells us how Jesus went about doing these good things:
"How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him."
If Jesus could go about healing all who were oppressed of the devil, because He was anointed with the Holy Ghost, then we today should be able to go about doing the same things!
Many don't believe that we can do the things that Jesus did, because He was the Son of God, but the Word of God tells us differently:
John 14:12, "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father."
The weaknesses He experienced here on earth
Jesus wasn't born as wise as He could be. Jesus didn't know everything the moment He came out of the womb. Did you know that there was actually a time when Jesus Himself was growing in wisdom?
Luke 2:52, "And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature..."
Contrary to what many may believe, there were even things that Jesus did not know while He was here on earth either:
Mark 13:32, "But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels which are in heaven, neither the Son, but the Father."
Scripture is even clear that the Father would speak to the Son and show Him things. If the Son already knew these things, then He would not be claiming in the below scripture that the Father hath shown Him:
John 15:15, "Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you."
This makes it so evident that the Father and the Son are two distinct persons in the Godhead!
Someone once said that Jesus was even manifesting some of the gifts of the Spirit while here on earth, including the discerning of spirits and the word of knowledge. Different times, Jesus would know the names of demon spirits when casting them out:
Mark 9:25, "When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him."
But another time when Jesus was confronting a demonic spirit, He asked the demon for it's name:
Mark 5:9, "And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion: for we are many."
Why would Jesus ask the demon for it's name, if He already knew? It doesn't make sense. I believe it is very helpful at times to ask demons for their names. It gives us an idea of what their function is, how they got there, and what other demons may be residing in the person.
Jesus also had weaknesses, and the man part of Him was asking the Father to allow His death on the cross to pass over Him:
Matthew 26:39, "And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt."
Why was He the son of man? He was our example!
God's Word is clear that Jesus was our example, and our lives here on earth are to be conformed to His image and likeness:
Romans 8:29, "For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren."
Jesus wants us to be going about doing the same things that He Himself was here on earth doing. He was our example! He was healing the sick, so He sent us fourth to heal the sick. He was casting out demons, so He sent us fourth to cast out demons!
Mark 16:17-18, "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover."
