The Divinity of Jesus Christ
6 For unto us a child is born, unto usa son is given:and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, the mighty God,the everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
NOTE:
One of the names of the child that was born is “mighty God.”
Psalms 90:
2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.
NOTE:
Christ is the One that formed the earth and here is referred to as “God.” (see Chapter 3 for proof that Christ is the creator)
Matthew 1:
20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
21 And she shall bring forth a son,and thou shalt call his name JESUS:for he shall save his people from their sins.
22 Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying,
23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his nameEmmanuel, which being interpreted is,God with us.
John 1:
1 IN the beginning was the word, and the Word was with God,and the Word was God.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
4 In him was life;and the life was the light of men.
------
14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us,(and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
15 John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was heof whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.
NOTE:
We know that this Word which “was God” is Christ because Verse 14 states that the Word was made flesh.
John 17:
5 And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
NOTE:
Christ had His own Glory.
Philippians 2:
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,to the glory of God the Father.
NOTE:
Christ thought of Himself as equal with God the Father.
Colossians 1:
13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:
15 Who is the image of the invisible God,the firstborn of every creature:
17 And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.
NOTE:
Christ is God’s Son and is in His image. Only Christ as a God can forgive us our sins.
One must keep in mind that the term “God’s Son” is a human metaphor, but cannot be pressed so far as to suggest there was a time when the Son, as with humans, did not exist.
Colossians 2:
9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.
Hebrews 1:
6 And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world,he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.
------
8 But untothe Sonhe saith,Thy throne, O God,is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness isthe sceptre of thy kingdom.
9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
NOTE:
God the Father calls His Son, “God.” No wonder the angels worship Him.
Think about this for a moment: God left His throne; where He was equal with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit; where He was worshiped by the angels; where everything was perfect and beautiful; where there is no sin, sorrow, disease, pain, suffering, or hate; and came down here to become one of us so we could go up there to live with Him forever. Oh what love!! Amen?
